Welcome,
I am currently serving as an Assistant Professor of International Relations at Kastamonu University in Kastamonu, Türkiye. I obtained my doctorate in political science, with dual specializations in International Relations and Comparative Politics, in 2021 from the University of Cincinnati, with support from the Turkish Ministry of Education and the University of Cincinnati.
My dissertation, which utilizes frameworks from international political economy and includes empirical fieldwork, is titled "China's Development Model as Internal Colonialism: The Case of the Uyghurs." This research centers on the experiences of the Uyghurs in relation to China and was partially supported during my tenure as a Dissertation Fellow at the TAFT Research Center, from 2018 to 2019. In my ongoing research, I focus on transnational authoritarianism, cybersecurity, diaspora and gender, further developing my dissertation themes by examining the Uyghurs, their diaspora, and China's systemic oppression of minority groups.
Currently I am involved as a researcher on a TÜBİTAK project titled "Two Persons, One Career: Ottoman/Turkish Diplomat’s Spouses (1851-1938)." I am in the process of revising my dissertation into a book and recently have contributed a chapter to Critical Perspectives on Cybersecurity published by Oxford University Press, which discusses the digital transnational authoritarianism exercised by the Chinese Communist Party against the Uyghurs. Additionally, I am one of the authors for the forthcoming sixth edition of Global Gender Politics from Rutledge and an article for Oxford Research Encyclopedia.
Recently I was awarded 2022 Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for an ongoing project with Dr. Crystal Whetstone.
